as we all know, for dads everywhere, father's day is like christmas, amirite? :)
my advice: if you care *at all* about your dad, you should make sure to give your dad a father's day gift, on a day that's like his very own christmas, but he's the kid who anticipates the gifts under the tree.
you remember, right? when you were a kid, and you anticipated the gifts under the christmas tree. was there ever a year that your dad didn't have at least one gift waiting for you, under the christmas tree?
right. so, father's day is not just about celebrating fathers everywhere, it's also about you returning the "gift" to your dad; it's also about you making sure that your dad feels loved by you, and appreciated by you, and about you making sure that your dad knows that you went even a little out of your way, to get him something special.
so, something special for your dad, for father's day: some gift suggestions:
1. personalized coffee mugs: tell dad something that you want him to hear, every day that he uses the mug. :)
for instance, this personalized coffee mug from thingsremembered.com:
for the above linked-to mug, you can add 5 lines, with up to 15 characters per line. so, think of something that you really want to tell dad, and want him to see every day that he'll be drinking from the mug. :)
2. an album you pick, by one of your favorite bands: give dad the gift of music, plus the gift of sharing some of your favorite music with him. :)
let your dad get to know you even better, and bond with your dad some more, by sharing with him an album you picked out to share with him, by one of your favorite bands.
for instance, if you're a britpop nut, pick out an album by Oasis, and tell your dad why you picked that particular album, to share with him.
another for instance, if you're an emo-kid, pick out an album by Bright Eyes, and tell your dad why you picked that particular album, to share with him. (you can also take this opportunity, to tell your dad about how emo changed your life. :)
e.g. "dad, emo taught me that sadness, and deep sadness, is not a thing to be ashamed of in any way, but rather, a thing to be felt, when you need to feel it, and to be expressed, when you want to express it. dad, emo taught me that when i need to cry, to cry all my tears, and to not give a shit if someone is a witness to my tears; my tears are mine, and they are proof of my emotion. if someone else thinks that my tears are inapropriate, if someone else doesn't like my tears, then they don't like me. and so best to stay away from someone that doesn't like me...")
the above quote is just an example of something you might want to tell your dad, about how emo changed your life. :)
you can tell your dad your own personal story(s) about how emo changed your life. :)
3. a new photo frame, with a photo of you with your dad in the photo frame: for if you have a certain bond with your dad, that's deserving of its own place. a special spot.
many of you have family photos, of the whole family all together. a photo of just you and your dad is different. it's like saying, that your dad is not just your dad because you were born into his family, but one reason why you call him "dad," is because of a certain bond you have with him, and because of who he is to you.
here's a pick for a personalized engraved photo frame, to gift to your dad, with a photo of you and your dad, from personalizationmall.com:
:)
4. gift basket!: pick out a gift basket for your dad, and make sure to tell him why you picked that specific gift basket for him.
so, it's not just the gift basket, it's also your personal reason(s) for picking out *that* gift basket, specifically for your dad.
e.g. "i picked out this particular gift basket for you, because the woven basket reminds me of the time we went to the country together, and had a picnic on the lawn (it reminds me of a special time we had together.)"
5. a piece of artwork, made by you, that you made for your dad: give your dad something from you, that's for him.
you remember when you used to come home from school, with a drawing that you made, and your dad used to proudly hang it up on the refrigerator? well, now that you're grown up, your dad might appreciate another drawing, or a song you record, or a painting you paint, or a poem you write, or any other kind of artwork that you made, to give to your dad.
it's something that you made, and it's something that you made for him, for dad.
so, those are five special gift suggestions for a father's day gift for your dad. :)
and don't forget to call your dad every now and then, and remind him that it's not just on father's day that you love him, it's every day; you love your dad every day of the year.
Happy Father's Day!
